About Us

Portland Classic GuitarHere at Portland Classic Guitar, we are committed to musical excellence, serving a local and international community of guitarists and guitar music fans in three important ways.

First, Portland Classic Guitar is an elite teaching studio. Students of all ages and skill levels receive a thorough grounding in every aspect of classical guitar performance from in-demand instructor William Jenks. Jenks shares wisdom gleaned from years of studying with world-class teachers—including David Franzen, Bryan Johanson, Scott Kritzer, and Ken Johnson—and from his experience in the master classes of celebrated guitarists Christopher Parkening, Scott Tennant, Ricardo Iznaola, David Russell, Eliot Fisk, Angel Romero, Pepe Romero, and John Williams. Jenks’s students gain valuable performance experience in the quarterly recitals that are the highlights of the teaching year.

Portland Classic Guitar is also a peerless shop for those interested in purchasing a fine classical guitar. We represent some of the top luthiers in the Northwest and from around the world—including the Milburns, John Blanchard, Dake Traphagen, Christopher Sobel, James White, Maxwell Sipe, and more. We also sell rare and collectible pre-owned instruments by such luthiers as Jeffrey Elliott, Herman Hauser II and III, Jim Redgate, and John Price. William Jenks’s extensive knowledge of classical guitar craftsmanship ensures that every customer will find his or her ideal instrument.

Finally, Portland Classic Guitar hosts an exceptional and internationally-renowned concert series, bringing the greatest guitarists in the world to the Portland area since 2005, and raising the region’s cultural profile by several orders of magnitude. We have presented well over 100 concerts by such luminaries as the Romeros, John Williams, Eliot Fisk, David Russell, Manuel Barrueco, Ana Vidovic, and many more. Most sell out. All occasions of rare beauty, as our regular audiences repeatedly attest.

In short, Portland Classical Guitar is your vital and vibrant source for classical guitar music in the Pacific Northwest and beyond.
